Difficult Women
Be Difficult
“Difficult.” A sexist term rarely, if ever, used to describe men.
Women who step out of line or disturb the status quo are often labeled as “Difficult." This campaign reclaims that label and uses it to boost the image of women who have made a difference in politics.
The Difficult Women Database chronicles the achievements of elected women throughout America’s history, from Elizabeth Cady Stanton who was the first women who ran for office all the way to The Squad, Nancy Pelosi, Stacey Abrams, and other powerful women on the political scene today. The tone is fierce and bold but informative, illustrating that women have not only held important offices but also achieved incredible things in them. We brought this content from the database into the social media world. With eye-catching graphics, it also serves as a news source for new initiatives led by female politicians. Viewers are encouraged to #CallHerDifficult and take back the derogatory label.
In case seeing powerful female politicians isn’t enough, the campaign goes one step further to let young women hear from them, too. A weekly podcast series interviews a different female politician from around the country every week. These women tell the story of how they were elected, the forces they opposed to hold their seat, and the landmark changes they’ve made or are aiming to make.
